Uniform

Soooo, it’s been a while since we have posted. Between traveling, visitors, weekend commitments… we are some busy girls! But it feels good to be back πŸ™‚

This outfit is what I like to call my “uniform”. Ever since I bought these jeans a couple months ago, I rarely reach for anything else for low key nights/weekends. And I typically style them just like this. I may switch out the tank for a tee, and the flat sandals for heeled sandals, but other than that what you see is what you get. I find myself being drawn more and more to minimalistic styling that is effortless yet purposeful, that can be messy and trendy or clean and chic. Perhaps it’s my newish hair, perhaps it’s the weather, perhaps it’s my lack of interest in purchasing fast fashion as of late. Whatever it is, I think it is here to stay for some time!

The Heights recently updated it’s pedestrian walkway along Heights Blvd with some interesting sculptures, and I couldn’t help but use a couple of my favorites for some outfit shots! Fun, right?

Is there anything better than a favorite pair of jeans? Well yes, I suppose there are plenty of better things… but they are pretty high up there, no?

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend filled with treats! I happen to be impatiently waiting for Monday, when all of the Cadbury Eggs go on sale.

For the past month or so the weekends in Houston have been ridiculously nice. We’ve had plenty of cold rainy days during the week, but for whatever reason Mother Nature has decided that the weekends would be perfect. My husband and I have been soaking it all up as much as time allows – plenty of patio bars and cafes, playing catch, picnics, etc. It’s been low key, which is great since starting in March we will be traveling A LOT this year. I wore this outfit out and about on a recent weekend afternoon for beers on a patio. Crop top season is upon us (at least down here), and I couldn’t be happier about it. I decided to take the 90’s vibe to the full effect with a high waist denim skirt – I expect this to be on repeat throughout the spring and summer.

I wore this outfit to the movies with a friend and her boyfriend last week. When we met up with them my friend’s bf proceeded to tell me that I looked like I just got back from Vietnam. I’m not sure if he meant it as a compliment or just a general statement, but either way my brain immediately went to “blog post!”. So I repeated the outfit this past weekend for some errands and strolling around Montrose with my husband, letting my toes hang freeΒ  in heeled sandals due to the exceptional weather as well as to polish off the look. Finding the perfect military inspired jacket has been about a 2 year process for me, so when I found this one at Madewell with all of my required features (color, length, collar, durable material) I scooped it up as soon as I had a discount code to use πŸ™‚

I feel it’s the short hair that really takes the look to a ‘Nam level – badass, right? Lie to me if you disagree.

Finally, for all of you Houston brides-to-be, don’t miss out on the I Do Bridal Soiree this weekend at the Royal Sonesta. I attended last year… there will be all sorts of inspiration and vendors, as well as free samples (cake and wine, nom!!) and a bridal gown runway show. AND, if you order your tickets before noon on Saturday, you can enter to win these Christian Louboutin beauties (details here):

I think that is all the convincing you need πŸ™‚
