This past winter, I had the pleasure of being introduced to the musical talents of Laura Gibson, a folk singer/songwriter from Portland, Oregon. I attended a Breathe Owl Breathe show at Fitzgerald’s, which I was so excited about since Michigan bands so rarely make the trek down to Texas (and when they do it’s usually to Austin), and they were touring with Laura. I had never heard of Laura before, but as soon as she started singing I was so delighted that she happened to be a part of this show! Her voice is so lovely, gentle yet raw, and her songwriting is absolutely beautiful. Her lyrics are simple but powerful, and something about her music and character just radiates timeless. Needless to say I left the show with her newest album, La Grande. The album rolls from upbeat to intimate and back again.
Love it? Me too 🙂 Some of my other favorites include “Milk-Heavy, Pollen-Eyed” and “Skin, Warming Skin”. Make sure to check her out!
